ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike described the reports as false, making it clear that he is not seeking a formal position within President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign structure.
The former Rivers State governor also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, stressing that his commitment to helping the President does not depend on securing a position in the campaign organisation.
According to reports, Wike said his priority remains the delivery of the Federal Capital Territory’s development mandate while also working to strengthen Tinubu’s political fortunes in Rivers State and the FCT.
The controversy comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with speculation growing over the structure and leadership of the APC’s eventual campaign organisation.
Wike’s latest comments therefore appear aimed at putting an end to speculation that he is positioning himself for one of the most influential roles in the President’s re-election campaign.
For now, the minister says he does not need a campaign title to mobilise support for Tinubu.
“I don’t need any position to mobilise for Tinubu,” is the central message attributed to Wike in his response to the reports.
The development is likely to keep attention on Wike’s evolving relationship with the Tinubu administration and his political influence in Rivers State as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
