Police confirm heavy casualties as security forces clash with suspected bandits in Sakaba

KEBBI — The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of 10 police officers following a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

According to police authorities, the confrontation occurred on Monday when security personnel intercepted a heavily armed group near the border area with Zamfara State.

The encounter reportedly resulted in significant casualties. Police said 17 suspected bandits and two civilians were also killed, while two police officers sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.

The Nigeria Police Force has mourned the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and vowed to continue operations aimed at tracking down the remaining attackers.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the fallen officers and directed security personnel to sustain efforts to bring those responsible to justice.

The incident has once again highlighted the serious security challenges facing communities in parts of northwestern Nigeria, particularly areas affected by bandit attacks and cross-border criminal activity.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant while security agencies continue operations in the affected areas.

The police confirmation came amid growing concern over attacks on security personnel and civilians in the region.
