Admin AdminABUJA — Nigerians may soon have easier access to two more African destinations as Chad and the Republic of the Congo prepare to remove visa requirements for citizens of African countries.
The new policy is expected to take effect from January 1, 2027, meaning Nigerian passport holders will be able to travel to the two countries without obtaining an entry visa in advance.
The move is part of a wider push to promote free movement, regional integration, trade and stronger connections among African countries.
Chad has specifically announced plans to abolish entry visas for African nationals from January 2027, while the Republic of the Congo is also expected to implement a similar policy.
The development could make travel easier for Nigerians visiting for business, tourism and other permitted purposes.
However, travellers should note that visa-free entry does not necessarily mean unrestricted entry or unlimited stay. Immigration authorities may still require valid travel documents and compliance with entry conditions.
The announcement comes as several African countries continue to pursue policies aimed at making movement across the continent easier.
