Kareem Abdul-record Jabbar’s has been eclipsed by LeBron James, who is now the NBA’s all-time top scorer in terms of points.
For 34 years, Abdul-Jabbar had the record.
James performed magnificently in Los Angeles against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
As Abdul-Jabbar watched from courtside, fans paid thousands of dollars to reserve seats at Crypto.com arena to see history. James didn’t waste any time in setting the record.
James needed 36 points to break Abdul-record Jabbar’s of 38,387 established in 1989 going into the game versus OKC.
With 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter, The King used one of his signature fadeaway daggers to break the record. His final stats were 38 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
James walked away from the record-breaking shot with his hands raised before being surrounded by teammates, followed by his boys Bronny and Bryce and wife Savannah.
The Lakers-Thunder game, which the Thunder ultimately won 133-130, was halted to commemorate the occasion.
Adam Silver, the commissioner of the NBA, seized the opportunity to praise James alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who gave James the ball on which he made the record-breaking shot.
James averaged 30 points prior to the game on Tuesday, so his performance was bound to disappoint those who paid for tickets.
