Raphael Varane retires from international football

Raphael Varance, a France defender, has announced his retirement from international football.

Varane’s decision stems from the team’s failure to retain the World Cup in Qatar.

He was a member of the team that won the tournament in 2018, but he was unable to help Les Bleus defend their title the following year.

Since his international debut in 2013, the Manchester United defender has been an important member of the French national team.

Varane started every game for France as they won the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

However, he struggled in Euro 2020, as France was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing a penalty shootout to Switzerland.

After picking up an injury, the centre-back was a major doubt for the trip to Qatar.
