Christian Atsu, a winger for Hatayspor, was found alive amid the earthquake-damaged ruins of Turkey.
Following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Monday that destroyed hundreds of buildings and left more than 5,000 people dead in multiple Turkish and Syrian cities, Atsu was reported missing in Turkey’s Hatay region.
“Christian Atsu was hurt when he was removed. Taner Savut, our sporting director, is regrettably still buried beneath the rubble, club vice president Mustafa Ozat told Radyo Gol.
On Monday, Ozat informed BeIN Sports that a number of athletes and officials had been extricated from the wreckage.
In a tweet that read: “Update: We’ve received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building,” Ghana’s Football Association (GFA) announced that Atsu had been discovered alive.
